Karelia and Azerbaijan are strengthening social and economic ties
A meeting of the official delegations of the Republic of Karelia and the Republic of Azerbaijan took place at the XXIXth St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
During the meeting, the Head of Karelia, Artur Parfenchikov, discussed development of trade and economic cooperation with the delegation of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
– In 2025, trade turnover between our republics increased by 13.1% compared to 2024. Karelia traditionally exports timber, paper, cardboard, and aluminum, – noted Artur Parfenchikov. – We have unique technologies and developments in mechanical engineering and energy. We are interested in developing this partnership.
As a reminder, in 2025, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Russia Rahman Sahib oglu Mustafayev paid an official visit to Karelia. Following these meetings, a joint roadmap was developed to promote cooperation between Karelia and the regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It includes plans for implementing joint projects in industry, science, culture, education, medicine, agriculture, and other areas.
– The meeting we have held today is a follow-up of the business mission that took place last year. We agreed to continue supplying products from our Nadvoitsi plant “Radiator”, the firefighting robots from the company “EFER”, woodworking products, Karelian berries and beverages to the Republic of Azerbaijan, – said Artur Parfenchikov, the Head of the Region.
The meeting of the delegations at the SPIEF-2026 will result in a list of specific instructions for further joint work in the key areas.
