Karelia is intensifying cooperation with Azerbaijan in various social and economic areas

It was discussed at a meeting between the Region Head Artur Parfenchikov and the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Russian Federation Rahman Mustafayev. They discussed the prospects for cooperation in industry, science, culture, education, agriculture, and other areas. The Head of Karelia instructed the economic block to develop the roadmaps for developing and strengthening cooperation in various fields.

On December 16, the Head of the region Artur Parfenchikov met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan Rahman Mustafayev at the Government of Karelia. They discussed the opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation.

Karelia is interested in developing trade and economic relations with the Republic of Azerbaijan,  emphasized Artur Parfenchikov.

The Head of Karelia spoke about the republican leading enterprises. The Azerbaijan delegation was particularly interested in the possibility of collaborating with the Karelian industrial enterprises, primarily with the Engineering Center “EFER”, which produces firefighting robots.

Artur Pafrenchikov also presented the potential of the republican forestry industry, the unique developments in power-generating equipment and shipbuilding from the companies NPP “Proryv” and NPO “Tekhnodar”, the products from machine-building enterprises, the automated enterprise management systems created at the Science Park of Petrozavodsk State University, and other industrial and technological achievements.

Following the meeting, Artur Parfenchikov instructed the economic block to develop roadmaps for advancing cooperation between Karelia and Azerbaijan in various areas. This approach has previously proved its efficiency. As the Head of the region noted, following relevant work with the colleagues from Uzbekistan, the mutual trade turnover between the republics increased significantly in less than a year.

The meeting also focused on cooperation in culture, medicine, tourism, and science. Following the delegation visit, negotiations are already underway regarding the performance of an ethno-jazz ensemble at the planned jazz festival in Petrozavodsk. The head of Karelia also invited the Azerbaijan artists to participate in a theatrical tour and scientists to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the White Sea petroglyphs in 2026. Azerbaijan also has sites where rock art has been preserved, providing an important opportunity for the scientific communities of the two countries to exchange experiences.
