Over the last year, the trade turnover between our region and China has grown by more than 20%.

A reverse business mission of the delegation from the People's Republic of China took place in the Republic of Karelia. The event was organized with the assistance of the regional Export Support Center as part of the national project “International Cooperation and Export” with the aim of strengthening trade and economic ties and expanding presence of the Karelian products and services in foreign markets.

China remains the Karelian leading foreign trade partner. By the end of 2025, China accounted for 52% of the regional total foreign trade turnover. Moreover, the trade turnover increased by 20.6% compared to 2024 rates.

The Chinese direction is of particular importance for the republican timber industry. More than half of all lumber exported from Karelia is shipped to China.

As part of the business mission, the Chinese partners got acquainted with the regional economic and export potential, held negotiations with the Karelian business representatives, and discussed the prospects for further cooperation.

The reverse business mission marked another step in strengthening the partnerships between the Republic of Karelia and the People's Republic of China and confirmed the parties' mutual interest in practical cooperation development.
