The International Festival “Autumn Lyre” starts a month of chamber music in Karelia
The extensive program features the performers and musicians from Russia, Italy, the USA, and the UK.
From October 1 to November 2, the Karelian Philharmonic will host the 38th International Chamber Music Festival “Autumn Lyre”. A key concept of the festival is musical diversity. Each year, the audience in Petrozavodsk enjoy performances by compelling artists and programs that cater to every taste: classics and jazz, instrumental and vocal music, and styles ranging from the Baroque and Renaissance eras to the cutting edge of contemporary music.
This year, the festival will present five concerts featuring various musicians and ensembles: a performance by Valery Kuleshov, a unique pianist who rarely tours in Russia; a duo performance by Daniel Zaretsky, one of Russian most renowned organists, and Italian flutist Luca Magni; a concert by international competition laureates Sofya Kiprskaya, the principal harpist of the Mariinsky Theatre, and Boris Lifanovsky, the principal cellist of the Bolshoi Theatre; the distinctive sound of “RusTradAns”, a unique ensemble specializing in archaic Russian music; and a jazz evening featuring British vocalist Cleveland Watkiss alongside internationally renowned Russian musicians Igor Ivanushkin (double bass), Rodion Goborov (keyboards), and Ildar Nafigov (drums).
– Thirty-eight years for a chamber festival in the huge, vibrant festival palette of Russia is a colossal period. Therefore, “Autumn Lyre” is not so much our pride as our value. For musicians, chamber music playing is the second most important one after solo music, because, firstly, it is a platform for experimentation (any composer first tries himself in chamber music and only then, already crystallized, takes his compositions into a large genre space), and, secondly, it is always an opportunity to talk with listeners one-on-one, this is a direct conversation with them, intelligent, sincere, human-like. There is no coincidence that, at his time, Haydn made a comparison between a quartet of musicians and a conversation between four smart people, – emphasizes Tatyana Talitskaya, the director of the Karelian Philharmonic.
It is worth noting that bringing such diverse musicians together on a single stage is a feat achievable only by a festival with a distinguished reputation and a rich history like the International Chamber Music Festival “Autumn Lyre” which began in 1989.
