A solid step toward perfect casting: the foundry “Petrozavodskmash” strengthens quality control with a unique device
The foundry “Petrozavodskmash” (part of the KRO SoyuzMash) has reached a new level of production precision. An up-to-date hardness tester has been installed in the plant laboratory.
The foundry “Petrozavodskmash” has received a technological upgrade. A new hardness tester has been installed in the quality control laboratory. Previously, the specialists only tested molding mixtures for tensile, bending, and compression, but now they have a possibility to measure hardness of the cores and molds at their disposal.
The device operating principle is simple and effective. A special indenter (a knife-shaped tip) is inserted into the sample, revealing compaction quality of the mixture and its resistance to deformation. It allows for a complete picture of the mixture parameters and the ability to adjust its properties before the casting process begins.
The plant specialists emphasize that the quality of the finished casting is determined precisely at the mixture preparation stage. Its homogeneity and strength directly impact the geometry and purity of the future product. The new hardness tester will be a reliable tool for preventing defects and improving production stability.
The acquisition of the device marks the next stage of the plant large-scale modernization, which is being carried out with the support of the head of the republic. Since 2019, the plant has been implementing a major investment project with the support of the Industrial Development Fund (IDF). The total project budget is 3.8 billion rubles, 2.4 billion of which were provided by the IDF.
The Head of Karelia, Artur Parfenchikov, has repeatedly visited the production facilities of the foundry “Petrozavodskmash” and noted importance of developing their production for the region economy. With the support of the republican government, the plant is implementing a large-scale modernization program and is developing new, more complex products.
