Karelia participated in an international conference of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization
An international conference of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization “Best Practices in Subsoil Use: Resource Base, Development Potential and Efficiency of Use”, organized jointly with the Supreme Mining Council of Russia, was held in Moscow.
Pavel Anisimov, the Chairman of the Association of the Mining Industry Enterprises of Karelia, participated in the event on behalf of Karelia at the suggestion of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Republic.
The delegations from the SCO countries discussed the prospects for development of the mining and metallurgical sector, joint investments, and integrated production of strategically important metals. The event served as a platform for interaction among the SCO member states and partners, exchange of experience and best practices in subsoil use, and exploration of new cooperation formats for implementation of complex mining projects.
The participants also addressed the issue of cooperation in education and science and supported the proposal by St. Petersburg Mining University to jointly train engineers at leading mining and geological centers of competence.
It is worth recalling that in August of this year, the Head of Karelia, Artur Parfenchikov, instructed the Association of the Mining Industry Enterprises of Karelia, in collaboration with Petrozavodsk State University (PetrSU), to work on establishing a council at the university to facilitate interaction with employers in the mining sector.
